Super Mario Bros: Movie Review (2023)

 

Hey everyone!  My brother and I just finished this movie and he was like "You have to do a review of this on your blog!" So, here it is.  This movie is super super cute, and if you played the game (the original Nintendo, not the new stuff.  I don't know how those are the same/different), then you will love this movie!  There are so many of the same characters and they have voices and added personalities.  If y'all played this game growing up, then this will add names/personalities to looks (kinda like watching the movie of a book).  Without trying to tell y'all spoilers, I'm going to try and tell you the movie plot.  

Two brothers that live in Brooklyn, New York, are trying to make a living as plumbers.  One day, on a job, they find a secret place under the streets of Brooklyn.  This place accidentally takes them to another world.  There they get separated and Mario goes on a journey with the Princess, Kong, and Toad to find Luigi.  The journey takes them to find out that Bowser is planning on taking over the world because he found a star.  As we all know, the star gives us great powers (much better than powerups).  They gather an army and eventually defeat Bowser.  

That is kinda an overview of how the movie goes. My favorite parts were the power-ups, the noises, and all the funny voices in there!  It was such a wholesome movie that reprised the role of the main characters in the game into a movie!! You just have to watch this!  I originally watched it on MovieBox, but it is out on Amazon Prime and probably YouTube to rent now.

Chris Pratt as Mario.
Anya-Taylor Joy as Princess Peach
Charlie Day as Luigi
Jack Black as Bowser
Keegan-Michael Key as Toad
and Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong

This was such a great casting!  I feel like the actors really brought themselves into the characters and they were so funny!  Now granted, I have never heard of some of these actors before, but the ones I did know of, were hilarious!  

I remember Jack Black from Goosebumps which came out a few years ago, and The Muppets which came out over 10 years ago! He's such a great actor with all the funny voices and expressions he can do!  I feel like he did a great job as the voice of Bowser.  I kinda wished he had more screen time though.  If you have never seen the Muppets (also a great cast), or Goosebumps, I would highly recommend them!  

Chris Pratt is probably most known to me for his roles in the Jurassic World series and Guardians of the Galaxy series from Marvel!  It was really nice to see him in another form of television (animation) after seeing him in Marvel and Jurassic World for over the last 10 years!  While I didn't like the first two Guardian movies, I really liked the third one, and Jurassic series was always one of my favorite movie series, so I would highly suggest you watch these too!
